The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen: A Book Review
Genre: Thriller
Hendricks and Pekkanen write a terrific story of a failing marriage. Full of the ups and downs of everyday life, the characters are shown as completely human, with the flaws and personalities of those in the public eye. I did especially enjoy the character of Avery, the “therapist” in the form of consultant, charged with repairing the marriage of her two clients after the wife’s infedility. With the wife being the main character, the story shifts between the wife and Avery, so that the reader is able to have a complete picture of the situation.
I am starting to think that The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides reformed the thriller genre as this is another thriller with an epic twist. I screamed (mentally) at this one. Unlike other thrillers, the twist of this story had no clues or hints that guided the reader to even think the twist was coming – but, at the same time, the twist makes perfect sense. It also was one that helped tie all the story together and made aspects of the story make sense.
Overall, The Golden Couple was a quick easy read with a daring ending. With multiple storylines for the characters and great one-liners (Avery was great for this), the book was hard to put down once the story started rolling. With all the characters hiding something, you, as a reader, will never see the ending coming until its right in front of you.
Who would most enjoy the work and who should stay clear (if necessary):
Enjoy
thrillers
twists
worlds crumbling
murder mysteries
Stay Clear
no reason that I can think of
