Delay of Game by Bex Jalise: A Book Review
Genre: Romance
Bex Jalise writes a beautiful story of second chances surrounding the young love of two best friends able to rekindle their flame. Like for all good romance stories, Jalise gives a strong independent woman longing for more but always alone, a strong capable man who just happens to walk into her life at the right time. Yes, a little cliché – but its what people expect when they pick up a romance book. In fact, Jalise checks everything on the list: angst, strong woman, hopeful guy, supportive friend (on either side), conflict person that puts a rift into the relationship, irony, vulnerability, etc. Its why some people like romance – its predictable in that love conquers all and everything turns out okay in the end.
Honestly, though, my favorite part of it was the sports aspect. I love hockey – maybe not as much as Harper, but still… it is perhaps one of the only sports that I can tolerate watching (everything else gets boring). Add to that, Kai’s description reminded me of the Pittsburgh Penguin’s Kris Letang. When I was younger, I was an avid Kris Letang fan – borderline obsessed. While other girls had pictures of Justin Mccarthy and Justin Timberlake (what’s with the name Justin) on their walls, I had a file of Kris Letang pictures on my computer. (I wasn’t allowed to have pictures on my walls.) Kai brought me back to all that – and, man, was younger me fangirling hard over fictional Kris Letang body double.
Who would most enjoy the work and who should stay clear (if necessary):
If you enjoy romance, you would greatly enjoy Jalise’s latest piece of work – however, I feel that at the same time you need to be a sports fan (at least partially).
This book would be especially great for someone who likes hockey.
