All Hail the Almighty Penguin!

Eggs for the Ageless by Kyle A. Massa: A Book Review

Genre: Satire

Massa writes an intriguing piece of thought in his novel, Eggs for the Ageless. Even still at this moment, I am unsure how much I even liked the story and how I should review it. I will start with the statement that Massa has a very unique style of writing. Throughout the book were little asides here and there that added comic value – something that teetered on being annoying or not. While labelled a comic fantasy (I’m assuming by Massa himself), the whole work reads to be more of a satire. Eggs for the Ageless might have been written to be funny – it also pointed out harsh truths about religion and society – enough to make a reader question everything not only in the book, but also real life as well. Or perhaps, I am wrong and am thinking too much on it.

Written surrounding a writer, unhappy with her life, Eggs for the Ageless, tells the story of a young girl who accidentally created another religion. Putting in thought-provoking one-liners and symbolic characters at the forefront, Massa adds depth to the girl’s coming-of-age journey just as well as humor to the dark, ungrateful mess that is humanity. Between the Ageless, the Almighty Penguin, and the intense struggle for power, Massa somehow highlights the very essence of the world as it stands now (and quite possibly how it will stand for the length of human existence).

I wish I could write more about this book – but I as I am sitting here thinking about everything, I am afraid to say something to take away from it. Perhaps the only thing I can say is that I was certainly right back in January – Massa is definitely an author that we should watch out for in the upcoming future.

Who would most enjoy the work and who should stay clear (if necessary):

Those who enjoy satire pieces or existential philosophical questions, this book is up your alley.

If you are easily offended – this book probably is not the one for you (especially if you find a character whose shoe seem a bit familiar). However, I would still strongly recommend everyone and anyone to read this book.
