Innocent Love – Wild Ride

Paint Me Perfect by Kay Cove: A Book Review

Genre: Romance

Kay Cove starts out an epic series in her first novel, Paint Me Perfect. Surrounding the story of a divorcee mother and a struggling actor, Cove’s steamy romance starts off with the bang of a fake relationship. Honestly, I wish the story contained more of the fake relationship just because of how much I like the trope, but as it was worked. Overall, the story was good – my big problem with it was that it got a little boring toward the end. It probably could have finished early, but I actually really liked the second twist at the end. Looking at the plot as a whole once the major climax hit, the following smaller climaxes in the falling action were lacking compared to it.

The characters were awesome and relatable in their respective roles. I found myself wanting to yell at Noa and Chase so much. It wasn’t that they were bad characters or people in the story – it was just that they were so stupid! They seriously were like the one friend in the group who whines and complains about everything, but never actively seek to change anything – only there is two of them and everyone else were encouraging their behavior. (Does saying that make me a bad person?)

On the plus side, I can see this being a great movie – I can just imagine Lifetime putting it on and women around the globe just yelling at their screens. It also was a really quick read; I read it in a 24 hour or so time period.

One thing that I would change: Honestly, it could have been steamier. As it was, Paint Me Perfect had a very innocent approach to the steaminess that makes a romance novel. I could have definitely used some more steam.

Who would most enjoy the work and who should stay clear (if necessary):

Romance novel lovers this one is for you, especially if you just love the idea of romance or are introducing yourself to it.
