The Club by Ellery Lloyd: A Book Review
Genre: Thriller Mystery
The husband wife duo that is Lloyd created the ultimate mystery with The Club. With so many twists and turns, I was being surprised at every corner – which was actually really nice. I tend to be able to guess the ending of mysteries at least by the middle of the story, but I could not do that here. Honestly, I didn’t know at first who was found (especially since there was multiple I then learned), then I couldn’t pinpoint exactly the culprit or even how each death occurred, and was outsounded that Lloyd was able to give just enough information that I had no clue who was dead or who was a murderer, but still give enough information that I understood what was going on. Even the amount of details given about the characters was at its prime. I felt attachment to each of them, but just enough to feel neutral and curious about what was happening. I wasn’t rooting for any one character (except made for one or two to die).
The articles intertwined within the story was an intriguing too as it allowed me the chance to piece together the mystery and try to predict what unravelled or would unravel. Of course, I was always wrong – but I actually really enjoyed that fact. What was even more amazing to me was that everything still made sense despite not laying out exactly how I thought it would.
Who would most enjoy the work and who should stay clear (if necessary):
If you enjoy mysteries or thrillers, I would recommend reading this story.
