What a Week

Hey Readers! This week, I just have a review for you. Stay tuned for next week’s book review!

What is going on?

This week was hectic to say the least about it. Unfortunately, last week I had a death in the family resulting in my usual schedule being thrown off. As you can probably assume, instead of reading, I spent time with family. Between that and work, I was only able to get to the fifth or so chapter, so I am missing a week and am posting an update instead (trying to keep the habit of posting on Sundays). I’m not upset about it. It is what it is. There is nothing anyone can do about it no matter how hard they might try.

Anyway, my Wednesday and Thursday felt more like a Friday than ever before. Thursday, my fiancé and I even went to bed at 8pm because we were so tired. I seriously hoped Friday could just be skipped. So now it is Saturday (Sunday when this post should be published), and I am behind by a book, heading to see friends on a scheduled trip, with a painting for one of them left at home (because, surprise, I didn’t have time to finish it). On the bright side, I am learning typing on my computer while sitting in the passenger seat goes a lot more smoothly than trying to type on my phone.

Book I am on

The book that I am currently on is Beneath the Keep by Erika Johansen. A prequel to a trilogy I never heard of before, it was published in 2021 and definitely reeks of prequelness. The first book of the trilogy was published back in 2014 and the trilogy ended in 2016, leading me to wonder if this prequel was only written to satisfy fans or keep an income coming in. Even though I am only on the fifth chapter, the question I have cropping up is why this book is necessary to the story. Hopefully I will find out at the end. If not, either I can read the series or ask someone who has.

The most interesting part of the story so far, are the characters. So far there are 3 main characters. Written in 3rd person, each main character so far has entire chapters to themselves. While two seem to be linked, one seems to be complete obscure to the other characters. It is this character that I am most intrigued by as the other two seem entirely cliché and predictable.

If you are interested in looking more into the book, I am linking its Goodreads profile down below.

Announcements

I decided to put this section just in case something where to come up. I am thinking all my updates will have it now. Of course, I am sure 99% of the time it will be blank.
