Started 6.21: Ended 9.23
So this book took FOREVER to finish! Honestly, at times, I thought that it would never end and just do a continuous loop (which I’m sure if you truly got into the book that is what would happen). Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) I was not completing engrossed in the story and thus made my way to the end in which I then closed the book and partied. Okay, that’s a lie. I ended the book and picked up another book I had recently bought beside me. In my defense, I was on a ferry for 3 hours and I still had at least another hour to go… and there was no way I could dance with the little room I had (the ferry was quite packed).
Final Thoughts
So I don’t know what I think of House of Leaves. While I am glad its over, I did like at least the journey of reading it in itself. My problem is that I am not sure if I actually enjoyed the story though – or even the reading. I just feel… torn. Parts were definitely interesting, but again I wasn’t as invested in the story as some of the other stories I have read. After the middle place of the story, it did get more exciting and I will admit that I did get more invested in it, but it was like floating in the sea. First, it was slow and boring, gradually rising and yet falling. The middle felt like a huge wave went underneath and rose you up high. The ending felt like you were falling back down until you were just floating again. Bad analogy? Probably. Hard to put it into words.
Stay tuned for the book review for House of Leaves, coming up next week.
Disclaimer: As you probably have already noticed, this post is kinda late (9.23 was when I finished the book). Between vacation and coming back home I have been busy and decided to use it to my advantage. As such, I am more ahead on the reading than I have probably ever been before. So hopefully, I will keep the mentality going and keeping posting weekly now.
