Hey everyone! So I am still reading House of Leaves and am currently on Chapter 7. My brain hurts! But, thankfully, in a good way. Things didn’t really start getting interesting until the third or so chapter, but now there seems to be an elegance of supernatural and insanity being intertwined.
This book is supposedly horror, but so far I am putting it just in the suspense category. Rather than actually being frightened, I am more or less wondering if the narrator is just going insane and questioning how reliable he is. It also does not help that there are technically 3 narrator voices.
- The writer of the articles/chapters (a character mentioned in the first chapter)
- The main character (also mentioned in the first chapter and who is the main narrator voice in the form of digressions written as footnotes)
- The editors of the book (who gained access to the articles/chapters through #2)
All in, its getting difficult to remember who said what and what happened to who, but I am referring to the method of “If in doubt, it was #2”.
I knew this book was going to be a long one, but I guess I didn’t realize how difficult it was actually going to be. If you decided to read it, I would more then love to hear your thoughts on it so far and highly encourage you to comment them down below.
