Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo: A Book Review
Genre: Fantasy
I did not really know what to expect form Bardugo going into this story; I knew that she had multiple books published, and that she was being called one of the best authors of current years, but I didn’t know what to expect at all. If I expected anything, it certainly was not Ninth House.
Starting out, Ninth House was boring. I will say that straight away. The story, itself, was slow moving and while there was suspense the result was easily guessed. Of course, somethings were surprises, but I was sad to realize that I guessed most of what was going to happen, – or should I say did happen. Saying this though, I did enjoy the story once I hit the midway point where it got more exciting and more moving.
If you are a reader who is willing to stick in it for the long-haul to get a nice result, this book is for you. However, if you like action and a quick-paced story throughout, I would suggest something else.
To be clear though, I am actually looking forward to seeing if Ninth House will gain a sequel. There is the potential there with the cliffhanger ending Bardugo gives. If a sequel does happen, I think it would be best to keep it as a stand-alone rather than a continuous story. By doing this, Ninth House while being the predecessor, can also act as a prequel allowing people who read the second access to more information about what is going on.
