No Words

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: A Book Review

Genre: Thriller; Suspense

Oh my world! I was not expecting the ending on this one. Beautifully clashing the world of being a therapist to that of mental breakdowns, Alex Michaelides carefully crafts a story that will lead you wanting more while all the time exceeding your exceptions to what happens next. Whether the story is that of Alicia or the narrator’s I have yet to decide. In all aspects, its both.

Loosely based on a play by Euripides, Michaelides tells a story of a woman sentenced to being in a mental hospital after killing her husband for no reason. By all accounts, the couple was happy with no financial problems. Michaelides works through why the woman did the deal, if she did it, as well as why she refuses to talk afterwards. It all ends with nothing being as you expected. Time is relative. No one can be trusted.

Saying anymore will ruin the story. This one is a must read. I am just as Alicia: I have no words.
